William KlienThis photograph immediately caught my eye, as I have always been interested in eras such as the 60s and 70s culture, fashion etc. I think this photograph is particularly interesting, viewing the different environments, fashion, types of relationships between people. For example, the man having his shoes shined shows some superiority over the man shining his shoes.

Ouka LeeleFrom the 'Feast for the Eyes' exhibition, this one was probably my favourite image. I think this photo is effective because the colours all compliment each other very well. Firstly, the composition and framing of the image works very well, which is the first thing that draws your attention to the photograph, by the use of slight rule of thirds. The use of pastel colours is very effective in this image as they subtly contrast one another, whilst still keeping that striking look to the photograph, without being to overpowering.
The use of makeup in this image emphasises the soft range of colours and to add a more editorial composition. The image was taken just after Franco's facist dictatorship in Spain, showing a sense of freedom of the population since the end of his rule. This is emphasised through the photographers use of colour and composition, suggesting a sense of expression and freedom in this period of time. The use of lemons can be also interpreted in a message of happiness yet very sour and bitter, to show the feelings and emotions of the nation. |
Laura Letinsky - Untitled No. 49This photograph is one of my favourites, as I love the way the peachy pastel colours subtly contrast one another. The simplicity of the photograph is very effective and you focus on the soft range of colours, which is very pleasing to the eye. The use of the warm, soft pinks and oranges delicately contrasting against the cool, desaturated light and the blue paint on the wall. Letinsky's still life work alludes to human presence without including any actual figures in the image. This is something I find really intriguing about her images to give the sense of human actions and the aftermath of it.
Letinsky says that her work "is in part about the relationship between looking at something and other bodily experiences." |
